With the steep prices of college tuition nowadays and the future increase of education, it is no wonder that many students need to work at least one job while attending college just to get by and hopefully graduate.
While there are tons of jobs available outside the college campus, many students really want to have an on campus job because of its convenience and flexible scheduling.
Here are some ways on how to find a good on campus job.
College career and employment office
Most, if not all, colleges and universities will have a career and employment office as one of the departments in their campus responsible for providing students internship programs during their studies and possible future job opportunities as they graduate.
This office provides opportunities for part time work for those students needing financial assistance as well.
The career and employment office will maintain a list of both off and on campus job opportunities that you can check out. So, your best bet is to locate this office inside your campus and check out the job lists in there.
Financial Aid office
If you need financial assistance for your college education, then what you can do is visit the financial aid office in your school and check if you can apply for work-study status.
If you are eligible and approved for work-study status, then the financial office will provide you with a job on campus in order for you to be able to earn the funds needed to stay in school.
Visit this office and inquire on how to get approved for the work-study status.
Student union
Some colleges and universities have a student union, which is actually a facility run and operated by students. The facility usually features a student cafeteria, lounge, and recreational room.
Students are allowed to hang out and use these facilities with the consent of the union and the college administration.
The student union, since it is staffed by students, is a good place to get an on-campus job. Locate the student union in your campus and inquire if they have any work opportunities.
The student and campus bulletin boards
All universities and colleges will have a public or student bulletin boards where coming events and gimmicks are posted and advertised.
Sometimes, job and wanted ads will be posted on these boards as well. Most of the time, these job ads are for off-campus work however; you may find some ads for jobs inside the school as well. Taking a gander will not hurt.
Word of mouth
Another effective way to find an acceptable on-campus job is by simply asking around. Ask your friends and classmates if they know anything about the various job opportunities on campus.
Chances are that some of the people you attend classes with will know some opportunities around the campus so socialize and get some information.
A good idea will be to visit libraries and cafeterias inside the school and ask the students already working there about how to land a similar job to theirs. Even your professors may recommend some on-campus opportunities as well.
These are the basic ways on how to land a sweet on campus job. Bear in mind that you may be competing with other students for the job so it is important to apply for the job as early as you can since hiring is usually on a first come, first served basis.
